Quora Q&A on anti-aging, collagen, supplements, and more

I am underratedly obsessed with Quora (sometimes I wonder how I ever lived without it). But as one of the most viewed writers on there, I wanted to share some of the information I’ve shared with the Quora world, on here.

Do collagen drinks really work for anti aging?

But it’s VERY important to take the right type of collagen, and daily.

I got really badly burned from an oil accident, and started taking collagen to get my skin to heal faster. I hadn’t even known it to be an anti-aging thing at that point. But about 6 weeks later, my hair and skin just started looking so amazing, and I didn’t get why — turns out, it was the collagen.

One year later, my hair is amazing, and my skin is glowing (even my younger brother of 22 takes collagen daily knowing all the amazing things it has done to my skin).

And turns out, science is behind this all:

Collagen is the most abundant protein in our bodies that holds our bones, muscles, skin together: it makes up between 25-25% of the body’s proteins and 70% of the protein found in skin.

As we age, our body’s ability to produce natural collagen depletes (-1% yearly), resulting in wrinkles and other signs of aging, such as sagging skin and joint pains due to weaker or decreased cartilage (hello, skeleton legs).

Ingesting collagen, however, can offset this process, by tricking your body into thinking that it is producing collagen at the level that your body once used to. After about 12 weeks of collagen, the study below founded that those surveyed noticed plumper skin and fading of wrinkles.

Oral supplementation of specific collagen peptides has beneficial effects on human skin physiology: a double-blind, placebo-controlled study.

edit: I take 10g of collagen daily, marine collagen only (bovine collagen is made from cow hides, and though less expensive, it tastes disgusting and you will NOT be able to take it everyday, which is vital).

I am 5′7 and 115 pounds. If you are taller and bigger than I am, more collagen could be more beneficial.

I also take probiotics and biotin daily, which I definitely attribute to for my great skin.

Which supplement or non-prescription drug helps with studying?

  1. Matcha: Matcha provides a punch of caffeine without the crash that usually comes with drinks like coffee, and contains L-Theanine, a mental focus stimulant.
  2. cordyceps: I like to drink cordycep in the morning every once in a while, since it helps me wake up. It gives you that coffee feeling— but be careful, because too much can lead to anxiety. Because of its earthy, chocolatey tone, it goes more than perfectly with cacao, and you can even turn it into an amazing, yummy chocolate milk situation.
  3. Magnesium: amazing amazing brain food. It helps you focus better.

But for all supplements take it daily, consistently — it takes at least 2–4 weeks for your cells to turn over, and for results to hit.
